Frequently Asked Questions

How much is self-hosting?

The open-source core is free under Apache-2.0 — SQL editor (with query history, result filtering, and error navigation), dashboards, pipelines, models, telemetry logs, Brain (BYO key), and the tunnel connector, with no license keys. The Pro License at $1,199/year per instance adds Query Insights, Cluster Health, Governance with alerts, Schedules, query parameters, and GitHub sync — everything Pro, on your own hardware. Request it at ch-ui.com/license — keys are issued personally, and you'll get yours as soon as possible.

Can I try Pro before buying?

Yes — request a 1-month free trial license at ch-ui.com/license. No card required: you get a time-limited key that unlocks every Pro module on your own instance. When the month is up, buy a license to keep going; your data and configuration are untouched either way.

How does license activation work? Does it phone home?

No call-home. You receive a signed license file and upload it on the Settings page of your instance — activation is fully offline. The key is verified locally with a public key embedded in the binary, so CH-UI Pro works in air-gapped environments. One license covers one running instance, with no limit on the ClickHouse users or team members who use it.

What's the difference between Cloud and Self-Hosted?

Self-Hosted means you run the single open-source binary (SQLite state) on your own infrastructure — with or without a Pro license. CH-UI Cloud is the fully managed alternative: sign up at console.ch-ui.com, create an org, and connect your ClickHouse with a one-line connector; we run Postgres, TLS, backups, upgrades, and managed AI for you. Either way, your ClickHouse data stays in your infrastructure.

Do you charge per user?

No. The self-hosted Pro License is flat per instance, and Cloud pricing is flat per organization. Workspace access uses your ClickHouse's own users, so neither your team nor your end-users are billed as seats.

Can I cap my AI spend?

Yes. Managed AI is hard-capped at your included budget ($4/mo on Pro) plus any prepaid credits you buy. When it runs out, managed AI pauses — no surprise bills. You can also bring your own AI key on any plan.

What happens if I downgrade or cancel?

You keep all your data. If you're over the Free limits, you simply can't create new items of that type until you're back under the cap. Cancel anytime and you keep Pro until the end of the billing period.

Does CH-UI stay open source?

Yes. The core remains Apache-2.0 and always will. CH-UI Cloud is the managed, hosted service built on top of it.
